I was terribly shocked to read a statement that Jordan Planet is being "put to sleep" for a period ranging from no less than 3 months to 6 months, due to the "unpleasant" quality of the posts, as describing by the writer.
I always put myelf in place of the person on the other side. I know that the guys behind Jordan Planet have done marvellous efforts in upgrading blogging in Jordan by providing a platform for all Jordanian bloggers to express themselves and attain more audience, and in the process refining and developing their blogging skills.
I believe for all of the bloggers in Jordan Planet, our very own blogs contained "unpleasant" reading in the early stages and maybe still now. I know that a lot of people are very critical of my writing but that does not give them the right to use their own evaluation to close down the blogging platform alltogether.
If the case was a lot of burden on updating and maintaining then I am certain all bloggers will run to help the JP administration volunteers to save our own community from collpasing since we all have stakes at JP. If it was an issue of quality of posts then it is just a process that needs to be understood because this is the actual role of evolution where quality can enhance with time. I personally enjoy JP blogs and I see them mature and deep. Some may use expressions and statements most of us feel inappropriate but this is OK since we are thriving in the enabling environment of freedom represented by blogging. It is not good for one decision, taken without democratic debate, and closes down the comments to be the final act.
In a natural response measure, Khaled (palforce) has created a new platform and I think this is a great idea. He called it Jordan Blogs and I believe we should all support him in this initiative, especially bloggers with a good command in coding.
However, I still think that we are entitled of a better explanation why JP was closed. It was an organic part of our daily lives for the past 2 years for some bloggers, and something like that cannot end so simply.
